December

... is here. This is another picture from the calendar I made for my sister. The paper writing season is once more upon me.

Overexposed

This is what you get from that beautiful slanting November afternoon sun:

At least it has pompoms! (I bought this poncho in one of those tacky cheap industrialized clothing stores that one never admits to having been at, but at least it was only 5 Euros...)

I felt like a fool hunting for a not-too-bright background, putting my little camera on fences and benches and having it beep for 10 seconds before it took a picture...

Finally! And I also get to show what I actually wanted to show: the source of all the striped fabric I have been using recently.

These pants started out as a long bootcut jeans that looked rather unflattering. Therefore I used to wear them only for gardening and such, which is also the reason why they have a patch on one knee:

Thanksgiving is approaching, and I feel that I will get a lot of research *and* a lot of sewing done over the long weekend.

Sewing Nook

This is my little sewing nook. I only set it up recently.

I used to collect postcards - here are some of them, adorning the wall above my worktable.

Contrasts

In the past few days I repeatedly found myself directing my camera gaze upwards and taking pictures of branches against the sky. I took this one tonight - you can see that it's finally fall.

After being an overly busy bee for all of yesterday, today I decided to dress like one. Since I didn't get to take pictures outside before it got dark, my poetic refrigerator has to serve as a background this time:

[Dress: found at Crossroads Trading Co.,
boots: thrifted a year ago and since repaired with contact glue,
cardigan: Bamboo, used to be a pullover until a few weeks ago]

I'm planning to use the pattern from this dress, with some creative license, to make a dress or two from a bunch of oversized t-shirts. Preferably before my brain fully realizes I should start writing term papers.

The Forest Frolics continue

This is what I was wearing two days ago: a skirt that I made in high school, a green Vero Moda hoodie, and a vintage necklace, a gift from my mother-in-law(-to-be).

Since the whole outfit looked sort of woodland-elfish, I had to go along with the hairdo. I hereby confess that I was something of a Tolkien geek a long time before the movies came out. Blame it on my dad, who used to tell me as a bedtime story how Gandalf fought with the balrog, and on the fact that The Hobbit was the first real book I read, at age 7, in elementary school...

Bruised Knees

Today was a day of torn jeans, gray pullovers, and great weariness. I had too much to do. Now it's dark outside, it's raining, and I'm cooking chili - comfort food.

[pullover: my mom, the 80s,altered by me.
jeans: random store in T-town just before it closed,
16 euros, torn and fixed by me.
pearls: gift from grandma]

I have a sunny post for you in store, but it will need to wait until tomorrow.

Autumn Light

Finally an outdoors photo session! I managed to take my camera to campus this afternoon, where despite Sunday I was slaving away my time, grading a midterm...

I don't quite know whom I'm channeling with this outfit: a medieval pageboy? A circus acrobat? The secret child that Little Red Riding-Hood had with Rumpelstiltskin? You choose.

What I do know is that I love my new suede boots. They're flat and they're Paul Green, and therefore they will stay with me for years.

I will now indulge in pancakes, some reading and later a sewing project.

Good night and hello Monday!
